The starting position

CBRE manage buildings and property at a scale where the supply chain is a large part of how the business runs. Their annual supply chain partner conference puts clients, suppliers and operators in the same room for a day, so relationships get built and new ideas get seen instead of circulated in a document.

We covered that conference for three years, and we continue to work with CBRE on catering and front of house at buildings they manage.

One day, and what it has to produce

Two to three camera operators on location, a photographer alongside them, and a plan agreed before the day covering what has to be captured and what each piece is for afterwards.

An event of this kind should produce more than one thing. The highlight film goes out while people still remember being in the room, and we turn that round inside two weeks. The talk sessions are recorded separately and cut as individual pieces, which is what keeps a channel filled long after the room has emptied. Short cuts from the same footage carry the day on social.

The material only the day itself will give you

The most useful footage from a conference like this is people saying on camera what a working relationship is actually like. One supplier described the arrangement with CBRE as a partnership rather than a subcontract. Another said he had set out three years earlier wanting to be on that stage, came back every year, and eventually won one of the awards.

Neither of those can be scripted, and neither is available on any other day of the year.

What it produced

Each year: a highlight film, a set of recorded talks and a run of shorter pieces, out of one day and one crew. Together they showed the thing CBRE say the conference is for, which is openness, collaboration and a willingness to work with suppliers rather than simply buy from them.

An annual conference is one of the very few days in the year when everyone who matters to a business is inside the same building. What you get out of it depends almost entirely on deciding beforehand what it has to produce.

A conference of this kind typically costs between £3,500 and £7,500 with us, depending on crew size, how many sessions need recording and how much social content comes out of it.
